PESHAWAR: One in five people in Pakistan suffers from diabetes, however, due to lack of awareness, the number of diabetics is increasing day by day.
An awareness program for diabetics was organized in collaboration with Pakistan Endocrine Society at Bacha Khan Medical Complex Swabi. Experts shared that the number of diabetics in Pakistan has exceeded 35 million, with one in five people in the country suffering from diabetes.
Awareness workshop was organized in the auditorium of Gaju Khan Medical College in collaboration with Pakistan Endocrine Society at Teaching Hospital Bacha Khan Medical Complex.
Board of Governors members Dr. Arshad Hussain, Dean and Chief Executive Gaju Khan Medical College Prof. Dr. Shams-ur-Rehman, Medical Director BKMC Dr. Shahid Nisar and other specialist doctors participated in the workshop.
From the awareness workshop, the experts of the society said that the purpose of the awareness session on diabetes was to raise awareness among the diabetic patients. In daily life and especially during Ramadan, the patients should take special care of their sugar level and diet. He said that overeating should be avoided in Ramadan.
The Pakistan Endocrine Society has also published a booklet in this regard with the help of which diabetics can adjust their diet during Ramadan.
Experts of Pakistan Endocrine Society are trying to control diabetes and in this regard are organizing awareness sessions in different districts of the province.
