PESHAWAR: Many people around the world can’t get rid of smoking even if they want to, but experts have now come up with an easy solution.
A study by the Department of Medicine at Serena Kharinwerot University in Thailand found that lime juice, instead of nicotine gum, could be effective in quitting smoking.
The study, conducted by experts, tested the effectiveness of using lime juice as a smoking cessation in comparison to nicotine gum.
The study included people 18 years of age or older who used to smoke and wanted to get rid of the habit.
Volunteers involved in the study were divided into two separate groups, with 47 people receiving fresh lime juice and 53 people receiving nicotine gum while the study lasted 9 to 12 weeks.
The study confirmed the reduction in smoking after measuring the amount of carbon monoxide emitted. The reduction in smoking was also measured by several other measures.
Researchers have found that lime juice is a harmless and safe alternative to nicotine-rich gum, which is readily available everywhere, while its numerous benefits include alkalizing tissues that are commonly found. But smokers are more acidic.
The study compared the two groups and found that there was no significant difference in the demand for cigarettes between the two groups, but after 4 weeks, those who used lemon juice were protected from its harmful effects and their Demand also declined, which was a welcome development.
